Susan Troller has had a soft place in her heart for animals since she got her first pet at age six. Since then, she has followed her desire to have “as many pets as I can stand” by raising horses, cows, dogs, cats, fish, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats and chickens.
She got her first chicken flock while writing CLUCK, From Jungle Fowl to City Chicks, a book of essays and stories about backyard chickens published by Itchy Cat Press in 2011. She has appeared on Wisconsin Public Radio, WISC-TV and WKOW-TV as a chicken expert and has made dozens of personal appearances all over the Midwest. She also appears in the independent film Mad City Chickens.
Susan is on the board of Reap Food Group which advocates for whole, fresh and locally raised food. She also was formerly a food writer for The Capital Times, where she did restaurant reviews, chef interviews and covered the local food movement.
